cruciate ligament
Hi Guys,

Just back from the vets with Cooper, got some bad news. Cooper has a ruptured cruciate ligament on his right knee, which needs surgery. He is getting the operation on Monday. The left knee is intact at the moment, fingers crossed it will stay like that. Has anybody had this problem? As it’s quite common in active dogs, says the orthopaedic surgeon.

So sorry to hear about Cooper, all i know is my friends chocolate lab had this and it did take a while to get better but they did not operate for quite a while and took ages to diagnose it, so its really good that Cooper is being sorted out quickly.
Hope all goes well on Monday and let us know how he gets on, give him a big hug from me

My other dog is a staffy who damaged her cruciate earlier in the year. It can be quite common in staffies, labs etc. Fortunately Jez didn't fully rupture hers, so her orthopaedic vet recommended physiotherapy, which has worked really well.

I know how worrying it an be when your dog has an op. Jez had 3 on her other leg last year for luxating patella. It's surprising how quickly they bounce back though. 48 hours after the op you'll be worrying about how to keep him quiet and stopping him running & jumping about.

Hugs to Cooper. I'm sure he'll be a brave boy.

We haven't had that problem with our springers, but our neighbor's lab had that problem - in both legs. They did surgery on both legs.
