Hi,and help please.
Hi all,
We have just picked our 8 week old Springer up, we have had him for 5 days and he won't stop snapping at us and biting our legs.
He as toys to play with in the garden, but would rather chase our legs and bite our trouser.
When we first had him he would sit on our knee with no problem, but now he just wants to bite us and snap when he can not bite.
He as been great apart from this, settled in well, toilet abits are very good and he is no trouble at night in is cage.
Any help/advice would be great.
TIA

you will have to keep telling hm NO
and let him know you mean it. i now its not easy as they are very cute at that age., but if you dont start now you will have problems when he is older. The breeder where we picked our springer said " dont let him get away with anything while he is a pup or he will carry on when he grows up "

It sounds as though your puppy has forgotten 'Bite inhibition', this is something the puppies learn from one another as they grow up in the litter, some times it's not learnt at all if the puppy id removed from it's siblings too early.

Each time your puppies teeth connect with your skin or clothing you should scream "OUCH" loudly and in a high pitched voice, any games you may have been playing at the time should stop immediately, you should also consider 'Time out' if the nipping doesn't stop when you shout "Ouch".

'Time out' is a useful tool for unruly puppies but should be used sparingly and only for a few minutes at a time, puppies soon learn that bad behaviour gets them 'Time Out'

He was the only survivor of the litter, as it was his mum's first litter and she smothered them by laying on them. His mum and dad are working springers.
