Im a new springer mum! need advice!!!!
Hi there my name is georgina and im the proud new mum of Bracken a 7 month old springer spaniel, we have only had her since last saturday and she is fabulous!
We had her spayed yesterday and she can take the collar off! We had 5 attempts at keeping it on her and ended up with her in bed with us so we could stop her touching it, im exhausted! lol, We have cut and old jumper sleeve off and put that on her to stop her licking the wound site, but wondered if something like tubigrip would be better? What do you think? shes back to her old self this morning wanted to play and eat so thats okay.Any advice would be greatly appreciated :D

Hi Georgina and Bracken, a childs t shirt is quite a good thing to use as its soft as well next to their tum, luckily we had our girls done around the same time and they seemed to distract each other from licking, they certainly get over it quickly they were back to being crazy spaniels next day. Give Bracken a gentle hug from me and my lot :)

Ah thank you! she seems a lot better the stitches a
re quite pink but the vet says thats normal, think she may have ear mites now cause she itching her ears like mad so will be at the vets 2morrow... again!!!! Ive been quite shocked today she met my dad for the first time and cowered and shivered pitifully and even did the same with my mum and my older son who she has met before ! they tried giving her a treat but she wouldnt wear any of them! I decided to remove her after a few minutes while we had tea and brought her back after, she let my mum stroke her but had a disgusted look on her face - she wasnt really sure about it. I felt so sorry for her, shes been really skittish tonight, jumping at her own shadow on our last walk, she seems okay now, we are having a cuddle on the settee. It was really strange yesterday when we went for our early morning walk, a guy came accross the field smoking (he had no dog!) why he was there at 4.45am i dont know! he came over and started to talk, Bracken walked in front of me and stopped dead in her tracks staring at him!It was like she was saying dont come anywhere near in her body language! Needless to say he went away, what a good girl! once agin thanks for your reply, we start obedience class sunday, will keep u posted shes really good anyway but we want to keep it up and do some agility with her next year, oh and if she can get over her fear of meeting people if it is a regular thing we would like her to be a PAT dog:D

Her ears are going to be a problem all of her life. I have just been to the vets with Angus and they gave me some drops that I have to use about once a week. More often if he starts to scratch. its just endemic with Springers coz of their ear flaps. Best advice is to keep doing it regular and get the drops on the internet when you run out, its cheaper than the vet! Hugz for Bracken from Angus (and me)

Thank you! she had her stitches out today and weve had her ears cleaned right out, didnt get the name of it, began with an O if anyone knows what it is because it was brilliant! Theyve said to have her ears pinned up during the day when we are in just to let the air get in, I feel another disgusted look coming from her! She got a bit of redness around hte stitch site but its normal, shes a lot bouncier today so I think she on the mend, bless her! Hugs to Angus and yourself :D

Hi Georgina and Bracken, spaniels are excellent at giving dirty looks, we can't laugh at Cassie she really does not like that and our Dibble was exactly the same. Sorry to hear she got upset, hopefully this will pass and she is probably still settling in and everything for a while will be a new experience for her.

Good girl Bracken for looking after your mum. :)

Think Cassie's ear drops are otodex or something like that.

Give Bracken a big hug from me, Cassie and Hamish :)
