wont stop nipping/bite mouthing
Biting,

Hi everybody, I have a fourteen week old Springer, who every now and again seems to go crazy running round the house at 100mph + and jumping up at everybody wanting to nip them, will he grow out of this I have tried all the other techniques of faining hurt etc sadly to no avail, can anybody advise.

Angus used to do the same, he jumped up and nipped, especially me! He just grew out of it, It took a few months but I think by 5 or 6 months he didnt jump up or nip. By what people tell me, I think they' re all the same. Oh, and he still runs around at 100mph! Good luck with your pup... dont forget to let us see some pics. Take care. Malcolm & Angus

Yes, they do grow out of the nipping. I have 8 and a 16 month olds and yes they still run round the house at 100mph. I think Tig (oldest) wouldn't still be doing it now tho', its only cos they chase each other. Looking forward to seeing some pics!

Hi Graham5358 welcome, yes he'll probably grow out it carry on faining hurt and crying when he does it, it usually works, as for running round like a maniac make sure he gets plenty of exercise to tire him out :)

Jumping & Nipping
I'm happy to read that the dogs will grow out of this bad habit. Usually Tucker starts barking first, then jumping and nipping at me. When I try to get him to sit he doesn't listen then when I go to catch him to make him sit he runs around the house skidding out on the hardwood. It is kind of funny when you first see this but after a few weeks, not so much

You could use a long house line so you can catch Tucker and then you can address his behaviour from there - a time out, a little bit of training etc.

I must admit I haven't been through the nipping phase with our Springer. From the very beginning he's always been very gentle and soft mouthed. In comparison to our dachsie's I can really notice this trait-and they did grow out of it.

Our Springer does tare around the house though, jumps up & from sofa to sofa, especially when I return home.
I've used Pet Corrector spray which is a little can of compressed air that emits a hiss sound. This seems to disrupt his unwanted behaviour and has been very effective. Now just the sight of the can and he drops into down position.

This should be used sparingly as it's quite loud, and not suitable for nervous dogs.
